Full description:
HeARTworks is a community art initiative that seeks to provide structured creative opportunities for high risk and foster kids and teens. While the average number of children in foster care is 47 for the state of Georgia, Floyd County alone has an average of 140 foster children per capita. Our goal is to facilitate an art program through partnership with foster care outreach center Restoration Rome that include weekly art classes, seasonal workshops, and summer camps. We believe that having a creative outlet helps a young person develop a healthy sense of confidence and identity. Proceeds from our heARTworks art and product line go toward the establishment of art programs and weekly classes for high risk and foster kids and teens at the Restoration Rome facility. Our long term goal includes establishing and operating a central heARTworks facility dedicated to providing multiple creative resources and instruction, including the areas of fine art, dance, music, writing, and more. Our mission is to create a safe space for self-expression through the arts for underprivileged kids and teens.
